Protect Your Family on the Road

  • Correct pet/family match and early socialization is critical to build confidence in unfamiliar situation or with new people. Puppy kindergarten is HUGE as is CONTINUING the process. So many owners just stop after puppy class.
  • Need to meet about 150 people by 3 months of age.
  • Positive reinforcement, positive reinforcement, positive reinforcement
  • Need to be taught to take cues and confidence from you. If getting fearful or stressed, need to give him something else to do, get him thinking. Once aggressive, pet is too emotional to learn or think well.
  • Full medical exam if very fearful or aggressive – pain, chemical or hormonal imbalance like thyroid, etc.
  • Allow your pet to get out of the situation if they are showing fearful body language.
  • Keep your pets confined in a fenced yard or in the house and keep them on a leash when in public areas. Never leave them unattended.
  • Spay or neuter your pets.
  • Raise the bite threshold – yip for any mouth contact, cease all attention. Give appropriate things to chew, and no body parts as toys!
